How To Remove Fuel Tank Vent Valve

I accept seen this come up upwardly before and have now experienced this problem myself, SO I decided to become alee and practice a write upward since I had to invent a repair anyhow. As you can run across information technology was snapped right off, and there is really no way to repair it, I even tried gluing it dorsum together with loctite 404 last week to no avail. So I started searching and to my surprise GM wants you lot to buy an entire new fuel tank for this niggling broken valve :duh: I did nonetheless find a universal vent valve made by Doorman office# 911-001.

I started out by removing the old valve by cut the ring with a razor knife, it is really really easy to cut. I decided to pull the pump assembly out to bank check information technology since I started having issues with my truck stalling when coming to a stop. I found a LOT of little green pieces and the bottom one-half of the vent valve in the tank.

I took some precise measurements and determined what I would exercise next. I took a seven/viii drill bit and drilled a pigsty in the base of what USED to be the vent valve. So I took a rasp and took the hole out to the first rib on the base, you tin can meet it in the photo.

Side by side I took the new vent valve office # 911-001 and pressed it into the old base and information technology actually snapped in and was tight. You need to remove the tension ring and o-ring from the new office before inserting information technology.

At this point it was time to seal it all up, I had some 4000 PSI epoxy made by Super Gum that turned out to be nifty. Make certain the nipple is pointed in between the 2 dashes on the tank and then it will line up with the hose.

Afterward the epoxy has set cut the nipple of off the old vent valve. Then insert the cut side of the nipple into the hose leaving enough space for the locking clip on the fitting.

This is the finished production, information technology is stronger than the oem fitting and sealed back up nicely.

So far my truck is running much better and seems to be fixed. A used tank from a local yard was $150, and the valve I got but costs $18.

I promise someone will find this helpful!
